Do I need to pay for TV Licence
Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,
I currently pay for TV licence and would like to switch to Netflix(£11.99 - about 50p less than a TV License). I use an Amazon fire stick to see BBC Iplayer now and then, which I will stop watching after I cancel the TV license.
I will only be watching shows provided with Amazon account and Netflix.
After a discussion, my friend mentioned that since my TV has a digital receiver I will be liable to pay for the TV license even though I won't be watching any live TV or recording anything.
Could you please tell me if that is the case.
Yours faithfully,
Alok

A television licence is the State's legal permission (yes, really) to install and/or use a television receiver to watch and/or record TV programmes at the same time (or thereabouts, so-called "live programmes") as they are being shown on TV and/or using the BBC iPlayer to watch any type of content (listening to radio channels does not need a licence). Decoding that jargon, it means if you only watch catch-up/on-demand programmes and never programmes at the time of transmission, and never use the iPlayer except to listen to radio programmes, then you don't need a licence.
The information above is available on the BBC's own TV Licensing Website:
https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-y...
and see particularly the FAQ "When don’t I need a TV Licence?" in the "Answers to your questions" section.
