Dear Defence Estates,
From 1976-1978 I was an RAF Sqn Ldr based at RAF Linton on Ouse, responsible for the Defence Estate (OC Station Services Sqn). I was tasked to inspect a site at the village of Escrick, near RAF Church Fenton, where nerve gases and the like had been disposed of in underground concrete 'bunkers'. I am aware there was a similar site at Norton Disney in Lincolnshire, as well as other similar sites elsewhere.

I would like to know how aware local villagers eg Parish Councils, are of the existence of these sites and also what steps the MOD takes to ensure these potentially lethal sites pose no harm to the local population.

I would also like to know the location of all such sites in the UK.

Thank you.

Michael Pritchard
Sqn Ldr RAF Retd.

Some weeks ago I submitted a FOI request for information regarding WW2 nerve gas storage/dump facilities at Escrick (N Yorkshire) and Norton Disney (Lincolnshire).

I have been advised that by Law you should have by now responded to this enquiry. I would appreciate your immediate response.

Dear Defence Estates,
You advised me on 27 June 2012 that my query regarding disposal of nerve gases may be subject to Qualified Exemption under the FOI Act. You also advised that you would contact me further, by 25 July 2012. To date I have had no such contact. Please advise. I am considering the possibility of seeking an Internal Review.

Yours faithfully,
