Directory of CVP Rooms

Jonathan Green made this Freedom of Information request to HM Courts and Tribunals Service Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, HM Courts and Tribunals Service should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear HM Courts and Tribunals Service,

Could you please provide me with a comprehensive directory, list or other such document showing the current CVP room numbers for all courts and tribunals in England and Wales?

This information is largely in the public domain, and is regularly included in the published daily lists for many Crown Courts. However, sometimes the information is omitted, whether from the published list or from the Digital Case System for a particular case or hearing. It would be extremely useful to be able to know in advance which CVP room number corresponds with which physical courtroom without having to try and obtain that information from the court office.

I see that there has been a previous FOIA request in similar terms back in 2020. (https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/o...).
Your response to this request was as follows:

"Q. Please provide a list of CVP room numbers for each court room of the Crown Court sitting in the South Eastern Circuit.
A. CVP rooms are managed centrally and so whilst courts will typically use rooms consistently, there will be occasions where this changes which is why we don’t publish a list of rooms by court."

It doesn't appear from this response that there is any objection of principle to providing this information, but rather it is an explanation why no such list was then routinely published.

I have read the guidance on the ICO's website and it doesn't seem to me that any of the criteria justifying a refusal to supply this information would apply to my request. Indeed, much of it is publicly available. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be a consistently-applied nationwide policy on whether to publish CVP room numbers, which is why I would like a definitive list.

If (as per the response given in 2020, above) the reason for refusal is that there are occasions on which the information changes, I am content to be given the most recent list available.

Yours faithfully,

Jonathan Green
