DirectGov/ukonline: basis of agreement with UK Online Ltd

Central Office of Information did not have the information requested.

Dear Sir or Madam

I am referred to you from Cabinet Office (for details see http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/uk...

Please can you supply me the key documents describing the basis on which DirectGov's predecessor (UKOnline in what was then Cabinet Office's Office of the e-Envoy) agreed with the domain name owners of ukonline.co.uk (which I believe is UK Online Ltd) that HMG could start to use the similar-sounding domain name ukonline.gov.uk?

This would have been around the year 2000.

This was for the main HMG web site (previously known as open.gov.uk and currently as direct.gov.uk)?

I expect the document in question would be correspondence and a contract or MOU between the department responsible and UK Online Ltd.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Yours faithfully,

William Heath

Dear FOI Officer

re RE: FOI Request 9330996

I do not find the assertion thta this information is not held credbible. When I mentioned this enquiry to the official now in charge of this line of work she said words to the effect "oh that old chestnut - we gave that information out ages ago".

Is the right course of action to ask you to reconsider your verdict (ie an appeal I suppose) or to go straight to her and ask what she meant?

Dear Glynn

RE: FOI Request 9330996

I wrote on 3 June 08 to say I found your assertion that this information was not held not credible. Senior responsible officials have told me quite bluntly that this informaiton does exist, and indeed that they believe it to be in the public domain already.

I asked your advice on the best course of action.

Since I have not heard from you I must appeal your original verdict and ask that my original request be passed to a more senior FOI supervisor.

My original request to CoI was made 31 March (following an earlier request to the CIO's office in cabinet office which was referred to CoI) and it's pretty tiresome that it takes so long to get straightforward information about how taxpayers' money was spent.

I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,

William Heath

Dear Glynn

It's here: http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/12...

I'm afraid it was directed - rather impersonally - to "dear FoI Officer" which is perhaps why it did not come to your attention. Copy below, anyway. (Pse forgive poor grammar - it was done in haste).
