Difference in tax payment timeline vs refund timeline
Dear HM Revenue and Customs,
I would like to know how quickly HMRC refunds overpaid tax on average compared with how quickly it demands payment of underpaid tax.
For the tax year 2015/2016, would you please tell me the average amount of time it took to repay overpaid tax?
For the tax year 2015/2016, would you please tell me the average amount of time given to individuals to pay underpaid tax?
Yours faithfully,
Mr Carr

Thank you for your communication of 4th September which has been passed to
HMRC's Freedom of Information Team.
We have allocated the above reference which you should quote if you need

The Team will arrange for a reply to be sent to you which will either

Dear [email address] on behalf of FOI Central Team,
I'm surprised that HMRC has done no investigation into this, nor are there any reports available in a database or a spreadsheet or ticketing system.
For example, the request asked for the time between tax refund being submitted and the payment being made HMRC. This should be so straightforward to produce.
Of course, no one expects someone to go through manually through every single taxpayer, but it's absurd that this is the only method of answering the questions. I don't believe it for a second.
My FOI request stands, please reconsider it
Yours sincerely,
Mr Carr
