Did the Centre for Wessex Young Musicians remind parents to check the privacy settings of their children's Facebook accounts and if so when?

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was refused by Bournemouth and Poole College.

Dear Bournemouth and Poole College,

The Director of Learning, Creative Industries had agreed at my suggestion at a SWYM Committee meeting in January 2017 that the Centre for Wessex Young Musicians (CWYM) would remind parents to check that their children's Facebook privacy settings were appropriate. I had suggested this was important because the Director of Learning had insisted in December 2016 that the then CWYM Facebook page be closed *immediately* because it allowed CWYM children to "Like" posts and which meant that any person on Facebook could click through (from the Like) to a child's Facebook account. She claimed that some CWYM children seemed at that time to have inappropriate privacy settings.

As a CWYM parent, although I had been expecting this to happen quickly (given the importance attached to this issue by the College in December 2016), I'm not aware of having received any such reminder, yet a communication on behalf of the CWYM Director claims that such a reminder *was* sent out.

I am therefore asking under the Freedom of Information Act:
1. Has the Centre for Wessex Young Musicians sent out any reminder(s) to CWYM parents to check that their children's Facebook privacy settings were appropriate?
2. If so, on what date(s) and in what document(s)?
3. Please provide a copy of any such documents.
4. If the answer to 1 is yes, why was I not sent a copy, as a CWYM parent?

Yours faithfully,

Patrick Lee
