Determination of the number of in-county children achieving the qualifying score of 121 in the Buckinghamshire STT

The request was refused by The Buckinghamshire Grammar Schools.

Dear The Buckinghamshire Grammar Schools,

I note from the information that you have kindly posted on your website that the number of Buckinghamshire (in-county) and out-of-county children achieving the qualifying score of 121 appears to be as follows:

2020 entry: 1431 and 2152,
2019 entry: 1425 and 2093,
2018 entry: 1453 and 1996,
2017 entry: 1387 and 1741,
2016 entry: 1430 and 1682.

Over this period, the number of in-county qualifiers has therefore remained essentially constant, while the number of out-of-county qualifiers has increased by more than 20%.

I would therefore be very grateful if you could confirm, or otherwise, that that the qualifying STT score of 121 is set by reference to the in-county cohort only, rather than all entrants.

I would also be very grateful if you could provide the targets, which you provided to GL Assessment, for the number of in-county children achieving the qualifying score of 121 for 2020 and 2019 entry.

Very many thanks in advance,

Neal Skipper.

TBGS, The Buckinghamshire Grammar Schools

Dear Mr Skipper

You asked for two pieces of information about the Buckinghamshire
Secondary Transfer Test:

1.       Whether the qualifying score of 121 is set by reference to the
in-county cohort only, rather than all entrants

2.       Targets provided to GL Assessment for the number of in-county
children achieving the qualifying score of 121 for 2019 and 2020 entry

In response to your first request, the qualifying score is set with
reference to the full cohort of entrants.

In terms of the second, no target numbers were provided by TBGS to GL
Assessment for in-county qualifiers for 2019 and 2020 entry. Qualification
across the cohort is monitored year on year to ensure comparability.

Yours sincerely
