Detention of Journalist investigating Child Abuse on Jersey at Heathrow Airport 11/9/2011

Tom Young made this Freedom of Information request to Home Office

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Home Office should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Home Office,

Please provide the background as to why an award winning
journalist with a clean record was detained for over 12 hours at
Heathrow Airport on 11th September 2011 after stating intention to investigate Child Abuse on Jersey, including Haut de la Garenne, where Jimmy Savile has been identified by victims as an abuser.

It's also on public record that the matter has been raised in parliament, with allegations of a number of children from care hoes across the UK going missing on the island.

The Police officer in previously in charge of investigating abuse at care homes on the island believes there has been a cover up. The investigation happened whilst Jimmy Savile was still alive, as did the detention of the journalist in question.

Please also clarify why the journalists visa was revoked at that time.

Yours faithfully,

Tom Young

Dear Information Access,

Many Thanks for your reply,

though I must say it confuses me somewhat;

I would assume as a matter of record, you are aware of which individual I'm referring to... a previous request I submitted: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/d... made reference to the journalist's name.

To avoid breaching data protection policies, I will avoid naming the journalist in question in this request.

To clarify, the information requested is:

Why was the journalist detained?

and

Why was the journalist's visa revoked?

If you could also provide details as to who authorized this course of action, I'd be most grateful

Yours sincerely,

Tom Young
