Details of the 1987 Listing of Island Gardens. - 1000815

Ralph Hardwick made this Freedom of Information request to Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England,

I would like to have a full copy of the correspondence, documentation and maps regarding the Listing of Island Gardens in 1987 - 1000815.

In 1971 Island Gardens was extended with land which transferred from the GLC under the London Authorities (Parks and Open Spaces) Order, as referred to in Statutory Instruments 228- 230. Island Gardens Extension. The Land Registry Title for this land, established in 1974, was NGL241053 with the Parks and Open Space restriction on use.

Island Gardens itself was not registered until 2016 with the Title number AGL369089.

I am also curious of the involvement of the Local Authority with regard to the Listing. All correspondence with the Local Authority must be incuded.

Yours faithfully,

James Lewis

Dear Mr Lewis,

Re: Environmental Information Request – Island Gardens

Thank you for your request on 18 February in which you asked for the
following information regarding the above property:

'I would like to have a full copy of the correspondence, documentation and
maps regarding the Listing of Island Gardens in 1987 - 1000815.

In 1971 Island Gardens was extended with land which transferred from the
GLC under the London Authorities (Parks and Open Spaces) Order, as
referred to in Statutory Instruments 228- 230. Island Gardens Extension.
The Land Registry Title for this land, established in 1974, was NGL241053
with the Parks and Open Space restriction on use.

Island Gardens itself was not registered until 2016 with the Title number
AGL369089.

I am also curious of the involvement of the Local Authority with regard to
the Listing. All correspondence with the Local Authority must be incuded'.

Historic England only hold list files from April 2005, and therefore,
as Island Gardens was listed in 1987, I am afraid that we do not hold any
information on the consideration of the property for listing. Prior to
April 2005 listing files were generated by the Department for Culture
Media and Sport (DCMS) and forwarded to English Heritage (now Historic
England).  Our advice was then written and the file sent back for
consideration with the DCMS retaining ownership of the file. It is my
understanding that the DCMS keep listing files for 15 years and so any
files for Island Gardens are now likely to have been destroyed.

If you would like to contact the DCMS, who will be able to confirm whether
or not they hold the relevant listing file(s), their Freedom of
Information team can be emailed via: [1][email address]

I hope that the information that I have been able to provide is helpful to
you.  If however you are unhappy with this response you may request an
internal review. Details of our review procedure are attached.

Yours sincerely,

Ann Bryan
