Details of successful prosecution of contractor loan promoter

The request was successful.

Dear HM Revenue and Customs,

In the Westminster Hall on 20th November 2018, John Glen MP, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, responded to questions from his colleagues.

He claimed that HMRC was prosecuting up to five promoters of schemes marketed to contractors and which involved loans. Of these he claimed one had resulted in an HMRC "win" and four were either pending or were subjudice.

Mr Glen did not name the decided case.

Can you please advise us of the name of that decision and when it was published?

We are aware that similar requests for information have been refused on the grounds of an exemption. This reason cannot be valid for a published decision.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Graham Webber on behalf of FOI Central Team, HM Revenue and Customs

Dear Mr Webber,

Freedom of Information Act 2000 Acknowledgement

Thank you for your communication of 22nd November which has been passed to
HMRC's Freedom of Information Team.

We have allocated the above reference which you should quote if you need
to contact us.

The Team will arrange for a reply to be sent to you which will either
comply with HMRC's obligations under Freedom of Information Act or, if we
think it's an enquiry that we don't need to address under the terms of the
Act, let you know why. If it is the latter we will, if possible, pass it
on to a more appropriate part of the Department for answer.

Yours sincerely
