ACCOUNT, Unmonitored, Department for Education

Dear Mr Peter Sumner,

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on
11/11/2017. You requested: “Please could you supply me with a list of
overseas schools that follow the English National Curriculum. Please
provide postal address, age range of the pupils, the headteacher’s names
and the headteachers’ email addresses.”  I have dealt with your request
under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Under section 21 of the Act, the Department is not required to provide
information in response to a request if it is already reasonably
accessible to you. The information you requested is available from Get
Information about Schools (GIAS)
[1]https://get-information-schools.service.... also available on
[2]www.GOV.uk website.

It may be helpful to explain that any overseas school may use English
National Curriculum documents and schools do not require permission to do
so.  Therefore the Department does not hold a list of such schools.

However, the Department does run a voluntary inspection scheme leading to
accreditation as a British School Overseas (BSO).  This does not mean that
the school runs the English National Curriculum, but it does mean that it
meets the standards that independent schools in England are required to
meet.

To search GIAS for the information we do hold, search by all
establishments and select BSO schools (listed under other types from the
‘establishment type drop down menu’.

Please note that the email addresses held on GIAS are not necessarily
those of the headteachers.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. Please
remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are unhappy with the way your request has been handled, you should
make a complaint to the Department by writing to me within two calendar
months of the date of this letter.  Your complaint will be considered by
an independent review panel, which were not involved in the original
consideration of your request.

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint to the
Department, you may then contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Yours sincerely

Miss Claire Stephenson
