Details of Independent Person(s) who consider complaints about councillors

The request was successful.

Dear Liverpool City Council,

The advice on your website regarding complaints about elected councillors advises:

How will my complaint be dealt with?
If the Monitoring Officer in consultation with the Independent Person find that your complaint is valid, they will try to achieve an informal resolution to it which is acceptable to you.

Would you please:

1. Provide details of the Independent Person or Persons appointed by Liverpool City Council
2. For each person appointed please advise the date of their appointment.
3. Give details of how and where these positions are advertised.

Yours faithfully,

Janet Lewis

Liverpool City Council

Constant excuses from the City Solicitor - THEN SILENCE

I informed Tony Reeves - SILENCE

I've had to go to the Ombudsman

As Councils are required by law to have at least one Independent Person to be consulted re any complaints about Councillors I don't understand why LCC don't put the details of the Independent Person(s) on their website in the same way other councils do. How can anyone have any confidence that these people are actually independent if we don't know who they are? The Council's track record of dealing with complaints and requests is incredibly poor and does not compare well with other authorities.

After 4 months I am still waiting for a response from the Monitoring Officer and City Solicitor - Jeanette McLoughlin. I emailed Tony Reeves about the matter...and, of course, he ignored my emails as well

That is the state of LCC at the moment

Dear Liverpool City Council,

Could I please remind you that the legal deadline for responding to this request is 10 July 2020. Would you please therfore now let me have a full reply to what is a very simple and straightforward question.

Yours sincerely,

Janet Lewis

Dear Liverpool City Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Liverpool City Council's handling of my FOI request 'Details of Independent Person(s) who consider complaints about councillors'.

This request was submitted seven weeks ago and by law you should have responded by 13 July 2020.

The request was for details of the independent person(s) appointed to consider complaints against Liverpool City Councillors - information which other local authorities publish on their websites.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/d...

Yours faithfully,

Janet Lewis
