Request Reference: RFI-2009-153

Your request for information regarding empty commercial properties has now
been considered and some of the information held by the Council relevant
to your request is attached to this email.

Attached hereto is a report from our NNDR system giving the address and
rateable value of empty commercial properties within the Newark & Sherwood
District Council area as required in the first part of your request.

With respect to the second part of your request for details of the owners
of the properties, adding the owner details to the report would have to be
done manually for each record by going into each file on the system and
recording the owner details against each address.

Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act makes provision for public
authorities to refuse requests for information where the cost of dealing
with them would exceed the appropriate limit, which for local government
is set at £450. This represents the estimated cost of one person spending
18 hours in determining whether the department holds the information,
locating, retrieving and extracting the information.

We have estimated that to add the owner details to the 502 properties
listed in the attached report would take some 25 hours of officer time.
This estimate is based on taking 3 minutes per entry to locate the owner
details in each record, extract and append them to the listing. Therefore
we have not processed this part of your request.

Any information provided in response to your request must not be used for
any other purpose, commercial or otherwise without the permission of
Newark and Sherwood District Council. Where another organisation holds
the copyright to any information provided to you, their permission must be
sought before any further use is made of that information.
