Details of emergency dispatch system usage

Alan Taylor made this Freedom of Information request to Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust,

Which emergency medical dispatch (EMD) system do you use to prioritise emergency calls and from when was this system used?

For each complete calendar year since 01 January 2007 until 31 December 2017 inclusive please give the number of 999 and emergency calls that were categorised as category ‘A’ using the Department of Health (DoH) EMD codes or equivalent and where the patient was situated in Pembrokeshire at the time of the call.

For each of the above calls please state which hospital the patient was initially removed to, and by what means. car, ambulance, air ambulance, & etc.

Please provide your answers in a FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) spreadsheet such as that available in Libre Office, or if that is not possible, a spreadsheet compatible with Microsoft Windows XP or XP Pro or as similar as possible (in other words an older version of MS Office).

This request might appear to you to be duplicated as I incorrectly requested similar information from Hywel Dda UHB who passed the request to you. I am repeating it here as I had not heard from you and wondered if the original had got “Lost in the post”. Please see https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/l.... If this request does appear to you to be duplicated please delete my original request for information and only respond to this one.
Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Alan Taylor

Dear Alan Taylor,

The Trust are currently processing your request and would be grateful if you could provide clarification for the following:

• Our Data Warehouse only goes back to April 2008 for reporting purposes – will you be happy with the calendar years 2009 – 2017?
• Your second point around which hospitals patients are conveyed to – Would you be happy with a breakdown by hospital and by vehicle for each year? I ask because the Trust can’t do it by call as there are occasions (e.g. RTC’s) where multiple vehicles convey multiple patients to different hospitals.

Your request will be held until clarification is received.

Regards

Dear Jeff Prescott (Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust - 020),

Thank you for responding so quickly.

Point 1. Considering your advice the calendar years 2009 – 2017 will be fine.

Point 2. I confess I had not considered multiple vehicles attending incidents. Thank you for pointing it out. In the light of that your suggestion of a breakdown by hospital and by vehicle for each year would be most acceptable assuming, though, that will be clear that the multiple attendances are for individual incidents.

Yours sincerely,

Alan Taylor
