Details of corporate memberships

Alice Bell made this Freedom of Information request to Science Museum Group

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Science Museum,

Your corporate membership page promises members "exclusive access to our events, exhibitions, attractions, venues and expertise."

http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/about_us...

Can you give me details of which events and exclusive access your "Edison Elite" and "Lovelace Laureates" members (BP, Haier, GlaxoSmithKline, Shell and Siemens) have taken advantage of over the three five years?

Have there, in the last three years, been points where the museum or parts of the museum has been open only for corporate members? If so, when and to do what?

Yours faithfully,

Alice Bell

Dear Alice Bell,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information Act (2000) request dated 31st
January 2014 with regards to the possibility of obtaining from the
Science Museum information relating to corporate membership. If I may I
will address each of your questions in turn:

1) Can you give me details of which events and exclusive access your
"Edison Elite" and "Lovelace Laureates" members (BP, Haier,
GlaxoSmithKline, Shell and Siemens) have taken advantage of over the
three five years?

My colleagues in the Museum's Development Team have, for your
information, supplied a copy of the Corporate Membership Brochure
(please see attached). Science Museum records detailing corporate member
take-up on an event which they are entitled, unfortunately, only date
back to September 2012.

Therefore since September 2012 BP, Haier & Siemens have used benefits
which are available to all corporate sponsors, but have not taken up the
benefits which are exclusive to Edison Elite and Lovelace Laureates.
GlaxoSmithKline have taken up one tour of the Blythe House storage
facility.

2) Have there, in the last three years, been points where the museum or
parts of the museum has been open only for corporate members? If so,
when and to do what?

The Museum has not closed any galleries to the public for private
corporate member events within the last 3 years. On occasion there are
instances when a gallery is only open to invited guests such as press
launches or other events, but these are usually held before or after the
public opening times of the Museum. Additionally during the adults only
"LATES" events - held once a month outside normal opening hours -a small
area of the Museum is usually designed for corporate members.

The Museum's IMAX theatre is available for corporate hire. A condition
of hiring the IMAX theatre is the inclusion of the IN Future gallery as
a 'break area', meaning that these areas may on occasion be inaccessible
to the general public during normal opening hours. Corporate members,
within their agreement, have an option to hire the IMAX theatre.

I trust this information is of some use to you and I wish you al the
best with your research.
