Dear Mr Wheatley

RE: Your information request: FDN - 274956

I write in response to your email of 19 December 2017 in regards to your
request for information held by the Parliamentary and Health Service
Ombudsman (PHSO). Your request has been handled under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.

You have requested the following:

It is understood that around 50 compensation payments have been paid out
by PHSO in the last 3 years. Please would you provide the following
information relating to these payments, from April 2014 onwards:

Date of payment

Amount of payment

Reason for payment

Please find attached Excel spreadsheet providing the financial remedy
payments PHSO have made from April 2014 onwards. This also includes the
date of each payment and the reason for the payment where this information
is still held.

Please note the following:

o Financial remedy payments are generally made for service/communication
issues and/or delays experienced in the service. These are assessed on
a case by case basis. Consideration is given to the impact the issue
has had on the individual to determine the appropriate financial
remedy to be awarded.
o Any payments/redress recommended by PHSO as part of an investigation
are not made by PHSO directly. Therefore we do not retain records on
what payments have been made as a result of our recommendations.

I hope that this information is useful. If you believe we have made an
error in the way I have processed your information request, it is open to
you to request an internal review.  You can do this by writing to us by
post or by email to [1][Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman request email]. You will need
to specify what the nature of the issue is and we can consider the matter
further. Beyond that, it is open to you to complain to the Information
Commissioner’s Office ([2]www.ico.org.uk).

Yours sincerely
