Details about Municipal waste

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council should have responded by now (details). The person who made the request can complain by requesting an internal review.

Kindly provide the following information in relation to the destination of all Municipal Waste Collected:-

1. Which companies are responsible for the collection and disposal of collected Municipal waste?
2. Details of all the waste transfer station that are used by the council to deposit waste after collection along with their respective processing capacities.
3. Details of the various waste treatment facilities utilized for the treatment of collected municipal waste. These facilities could include Anaerobic Digestion, MRFs, Incinerators, landfill?
4. Also provide details of the companies operating those waste treatment contracts?

Thank you for your request for information regarding ‘Municipal Waste’ (reference number 08093); please see our response attached/below. If you have any queries regarding your request for information then please don’t hesitate to contact us.

1. Which companies are responsible for the collection and disposal of collected Municipal waste? Collection is with the Council. Disposal of residual and recyclates are via Suez UK.
2. Details of all the waste transfer station that are used by the council to deposit waste after collection along with their respective processing capacities. Suez UK Darwen site at Goosehouse Lane Darwen. Details of capacities are available via the Environment Agency, as we do not hold those details.
3. Details of the various waste treatment facilities utilized for the treatment of collected municipal waste. These facilities could include Anaerobic Digestion, MRFs, Incinerators, landfill? Residual is energy from waste or landfill. Recycling of DMR and fibrous material is via processing plants with details available via Wastedataflow as managed by the Environment Agency.
4. Also provide details of the companies operating those waste treatment contracts? Suez UK operate the contracts for the Council as previously stated.
