Detailed Financial Accounts For Local Authority Leisure Trusts 2005-2010

STEFAN made this Freedom of Information request to Charity Commission for England and Wales

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

This request has been withdrawn by the person who made it. There may be an explanation in the correspondence below.

Dear Charity Commission for England and Wales,

I would like to request a copy of the annual financial returns/accounts for all the Local Authority Leisure Trusts within England and Wales.

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

Yours faithfully,

Thank you

CCD Email Team, Charity Commission for England and Wales

Dear Mr [last name of requester removed]

Thank you for your email.

Due to resources I am afraid we are unable to provide copies of the
information you require however; I have carried out a search on the
Register and there are 74 leisure centre charities listed.  If any of
these charities have a yearly income of £25,000 or over you can view
their accounts on our website.  For those charities whose income falls
below this figure you can request a copy from the charity but there may be
a charge for this service.  Details of the 74 charities can be viewed on
our website at:

[1]http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/SHOW...

With regard to your request for copies of Annual Returns these documents
fall under the Data Protection Act because of the personal information
they contain.  Also under section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act
disclosure of this information would contravene the principles of the Data
Protection Act and therefore is considered exempt information.

I realise this may not be the response you were hoping for but if you
could be more specific with names and/or charity numbers regarding a more
manageable number we may be able to help.  However as previously stated
this information can be found on our website through the link given above.

Should you have any further queries please visit our website
[2]www.charitycommission.gov.uk , where you will find lots of guidance on
the most frequently asked questions we receive, or send us an email, or
phone us on 0845 300 0218.

Yours sincerely

Dear Mr [last name of requester removed]

I'm afraid we are unable to provide you with details of all the charities
that were found in a search for leisure centres, this information is
available via our website.  I have provided below a link to the advanced
search facility of the register on our website

Please enter the keywords of leisure and centre and click search, this
will return a list of charities which met this criteria, you will then
need to click on each charity found to view their entry in the register.
As advised by my colleague if the charity's accounts were £25,000 and
above you will be able to access the accounts on the website.

I noticed from your email that there was a number (1) in front of the

Given the problems with the search facility on you website, I think the best way forward is for you to forward me the names and charity numbers of all the Local Authority Leisure Trusts in England & Wales.

This will allow me to contact the various Leisure Trusts direct.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Stephan [last name of requester removed]

Hello and sorry once again for the problems.

I have checked the search and it is working normally. However, there
does seem to be a problem with the way that the link is being displayed
in your email because it seems to be truncating the link and is
duplicating it(if you look at the email link, you will see that the
underlining stops in the middle and then appears twice).

I'm not sure what the issue is with the email and the way it is
displaying the links, so please try this alternative way of getting to
the link and the page that you need:

1. From the website homepage, click on the green 'View the Register'
button which is half way up in the middle of the page underneath the
heading 'View the Register of Charities'

2. After you've clicked on the above link, you should arrive at the
Register of Charities section

3. From there, you'll see a grey menu on the left-hand side headed 'In
this section...'

4. Click on the second link down entitled 'Advanced search' and it
should take you to the advanced search page

Once again, I'm sorry for the problems.

If you are still having problems locating the page you need, please let
me know

Regards

I have tried to follow the instructions given and it appears that if you press enter or return after entering the search terms then the error message is produced whereas if you click the "search" button then the search results are shown.

My search only gave 53 results, less than I was expecting given the correspondence above.

This is one of a number of basic problems with the charity commission search page - another was shown when the officer initially responding tried to link to a search results page but failed to do so effectively.
