Dear Mr Kearney

Our ref: FOI-1083-1516

The attached table summarises all fatalities recorded in connection with
operation of the TfL-contracted bus network from April 2007 to March 2015.
During this eight-year period, around 16 billion journeys were made and
142 fatalities occurred from 133 incidents. There has also been a reducing
trend over this timescale, with the highest proportion of 27% of these
accidents occurring in 2007/08. Within this eight-year period, six
accidents resulted in 15 fatalities and two of these involved private
motor vehicles not only colliding with a bus but being on the wrong side
of the road.

TfL records all reported incidents on the bus network irrespective of
whether third-parties were culpable or not. As bus drivers are directly
employed by private bus operators, TfL does not hold data on the
prosecution of bus drivers or other motorists in connection with accidents
on the bus network. This data may be available from the Crown Prosecution
Service. Routes identified in the table with the acronym RR are those with
contracted vehicles operating a Rail Replacement service at the time of
the incident.

Detailed information on collision incidents involving London’s buses,
including most of the categories of information you have requested, is
published at
[1]https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publication...
and covers the period since January 2014.
