Desmoulin's whorl snail (Vertigo moulinsiana)

Stuart Hardwicke CARRUTHERS made this Freedom of Information request to Natural England Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was successful.

Stuart Hardwicke CARRUTHERS

Dear Natural England,

The Stodmarsh Special Area of Conservation (SAC) was designated as a a SAC due to the presence of the Desmoulin's whorl snail (Vertigo moulinsiana).

The Desmoulin's whorl snail (Vertigo moulinsiana)is identified as living beside ditches within pasture on the floodplain of the River Stour, This is only a small area of the SSSI.

Please provide plans of:

a) the land that forms the habitat of the Desmoulin's whorl snail (Vertigo moulinsiana) at the Stodrmarsh Nature reserve
b) the distribution of the Desmoulin's whorl snail (Vertigo moulinsiana) at the Stodrmarsh Nature reserve.

Please also provide any evidence held by Natural England that the Desmoulins whorl snail is affected by elevated levels of Phosphorus and Nitrogon

and that

recreational pressures affect the abundance and distribution of the Desmoulin's whorl snail (Vertigo moulinsiana) at the Stodmarsh Nature Reserve. This would effectively be studies on the impact of nature conservation organisations and recreational twitchers) on this European species

Yours faithfully,

Stuart Hardwicke CARRUTHERS

Stuart Hardwicke CARRUTHERS

Dear Natural England,

According to Natural Englands habitat designations for the units that form Stodmarsh (different to those used in the BNG metric) there is no suitable habitat for the Desmoulin's whorl snail at the Stodmarsh National Nature reserve.

Whatdotheyknow has just identified that you are seeking clarification of the FOIR according to their system. You have not asked for clarification in your mail.

i have provided you with a link to the main study on the snail.

Yours faithfully,

Stuart Hardwicke CARRUTHERS

Environmental Information Regulations 2004 - Extension of time -
EIR2024/08892

I am writing to advise you that the time limit for responding to your
request for information under the Environmental Information Regulations
2004, which we received on 4 September 2024, needs to be extended.

The Regulations allow us 20 working days to respond to your request from
the date of its receipt. However, it is occasionally necessary to extend
the 20 working day time limit for issuing a response. In this case, we
regret that we must extend the time limit for responding by a further 20
working days to 30 October 2024, because of the complexity nature of the
request, although we hope to reply sooner.

Yours sincerely
