depths of the water in Leeds & Liverpool canal

The request was partially successful.

Dear Canal & River Trust,

I would like any information regarding the depths of the water in Leeds & Liverpool canal.

I would also like any information on fish stocks and the locations of any marinas.

Yours faithfully,

James West

Information Request, Canal & River Trust

Dear James,

Thank you for your request.

I've spoken to the various teams who would be able to provide the information. The Hydrology Team have come back asking for further clarification regarding depths of water in the Canal.

The Leeds & Liverpool Canal is 204 kilometres long and its depth changes constantly. At each 50 metre interval there is a cross section which provides a contour bed plan, therefore we have nearly 4000 cross sections along this Canal in particular. Are you able to clarify a specific area or location in which you would like the depth of the Canal?

Kind regards,

Frazer Halcrow

Information Request, Canal & River Trust

Dear James,

Further to our email of 10/02/16 where we asked for clarification about a
part of your Freedom of Information Request made on 05/02/16. This is to
advise you that we still require such clarification regarding the depths
of water in the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in order to answer that part of
your request.

As I stated in our email of 10/02/16 the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is 204
kilometres long and its depth changes constantly. At each 50 metre
interval there is a cross section which provides a contour bed plan,
therefore we have nearly 4000 cross sections along this Canal in
particular. In light of this, are you able to clarify a specific area or
location in which you would like the depth of the Canal?

If clarification is not received then the Trust does not have to answer
this part of your request as is stated in Section 1(3) of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 which I have copied below for your reference.

Where a public authority—

(a)reasonably requires further information in order to identify and locate
the information requested, and

(b)has informed the applicant of that requirement,

the authority is not obliged to comply with subsection (1) unless it is
supplied with that further information.

We will answer the other parts of your request within the 20 working day
time limit and of course if clarification is received will go about
answering the above as well.

If you require anything further please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Frazer Halcrow

Information Request, Canal & River Trust

Dear James,

Thank you for your email of 05/02/16 where you requested various
information about the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

As per our previous emails we require further clarification for part of
your request regarding the depths of the Canal so cannot respond to that
part as of yet.

However, in relation to any marinas located along the Canal please see the
attached document which details all private moorings on the Leeds &
Liverpool Canal. In terms of location the Trust does this by a coordinate
known as a Functional Location. This can be typed into our interactive map
which I have copied as a link below. If you click on the magnifying glass
on the map you can type in the function locations and it will show you the
km length where the marinas are located.

In terms of Fish Stocks, the Leeds & Liverpool Canal contains a range of
coarse fish species. These include roach, bream perch, tench pike, eel,
gudgeon, ruffe, rudd European eel, carp and bullhead. The canal fish
stocks are not quantitatively surveyed but results from fish rescues
associated with our maintenance programmes indicate a typical biomass in
the range of 300 to 350 kgs/hectare. For more specific angling related
information it would be best to contact the individual angling clubs who
rent the fishing rights, details of these can be found on the fishing page
of the Trust’s website
