Depleted uranium information

David made this Freedom of Information request to Ministry of Defence

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Ministry of Defence,

Do our troops use depleted uranium weapons?

If so what training and safety equipment is provided to them?

How many troops have become ill due to exposure to depleted uranium?

How does the MOD help those who have become sick?

Yours faithfully,

David Bolwell

Dear Ministry of Defence,

Dear Ministry of Defence,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Ministry of Defence's handling of my FOI request 'Depleted uranium information'.

[ You have failed to respond within the time frame given by law. ]

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr Bolwell,

Thank you for your e-mail of 11 Jan 2011, in which you requested an
internal review of your request about Depleted Uranium, our reference

I should explain that the internal review process is aimed primarily at
reviewing MOD's substantive response to a request for information to
assess its compliance with the FOI Act or EIRs. I understand your
complaint to be that you have not yet been provided with such a
substantive response.

In this situation the most productive solution is not to undertake a
formal internal review in the terms described above at this time, but to
investigate the reasons why you have not yet received a substantive
response and to ensure that you are provided with one as soon as

I have ascertained from the MOD's responding branch that the aim is to
get the substantive response to you by Friday 21 January 2011. If you
remain dissatisfied once you have received this response, please let us
know and MOD will of course be happy to begin a formal internal review
at that stage.
