Department of Computer Science Casual Work Allocation Practice

The request was refused by University of Bath.

Dear University of Bath,

On 22nd September 2017, Dr Alan Hayes announced the following practice for the Department of Computer Science:
"Additionally, your supervisor may well have advised you to reduce your tutoring commitment as your submission deadline is getting close. There are also new PhD students who have joined us who may wish to undertake some tutoring. Hence, the need to update our list.

Once we have had replies, and we have checked with your supervisors that they are happy with you committing the time, we will update the Department’s list of tutors accordingly."

Please could you provide me with the following about this p:
1. Information about any consultation which took place
2. Information about any equality impact assessments which took place
3. Information about how this practice complies with the Data Protection Act 1998
4. The number of students who were originally allocated work (on mytimetable.bath.ac.uk) but were subsequence denied it (removed from mytimetable) using this practice
5. The estimated loss of income for students affected (point 4)
6. How many of the affected students (point 4) were earning less than £10,000 per year (including funding for their degree)

Yours faithfully,

Nicholas Westlake

Dear University of Bath,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of University of Bath's handling of my FOI request 'Department of Computer Science Casual Work Allocation Practice'.

1. To justify that this is a "day-to-day operational matter", please identify when the last time such a request took place prior to this one. Please could you also justify how a policy or practice which could cause a financial loss to a student of perhaps up to £6,000 could be a "day-to-day operational matter".
2. Please could you review the answer to number 4, particularly the number of students who were allocated teaching hours but were subsequently denied some or all of their hours, against their will.
3. Please answer 5 and 6.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/d...

Dear University Secretary,

I know this not to be true in my case. What I don't know is how this has affected other students. I am disappointed to see such institutional dishonesty.

Yours sincerely,

Westlake
