Dear Tong Jinhui,

Thank you for your recent FOI request.

Please find below the College's response to your questions.

MEng Aeronautical Engineering

1. The number of students enrolled into the above-mentioned course in the academic years 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017.

2010/2011 - 71
2011/2012 - 98
2012/2013 - 84
2013/2014 - 82
2014/2015 - 97
2015/2016 - 116
2016/2017 -130

2. The percentage breakdown of students in each nationality group who enrolled into the above-mentioned course in the academic years 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017.

See table 1 in the attached spreadsheet.

Due to the low number of students enrolled on the MEng Aeronautical Engineering course and the variety of nationalities of these students the data is more meaningful when presented by the number of students of each nationality rather than a percentage. Figures of five or fewer have been replaced with an asterisk. This is because, due to the small numbers involved, individuals may otherwise be identifiable from the data provided. This information is therefore exempt from disclosure under Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act, which states that "any information to which a request for information relates is also exempt information if - (a) it constitutes personal data."

3. The number of students remaining in the course after each passing academic year for each cohort intake. Example:
110 students from the 2010/2011 cohort remaining after 1 year of study.
90 students from the 2010/2011 cohort remaining after 2 years of study.
75 students from the 2010/2011 cohort remaining after 3 years of study.
60 students from the 2010/2011 cohort remaining after 4 years of study.
105 students from the 2011/2012 cohort remaining after 1 year of study.
etc.

See table 2 in the attached spreadsheet.

The number of remaining students are based on the number of students in that cohort who progressed through the 4 years without any interruptions. For example, a student who had to repeat year 2 but went on to complete all 4 years out of step with their cohort would not be included in those remaining after 3 or 4 years of study.

Please note this data is based on a snapshot taken annually on 31st December. It therefore does not include any students who left in the first few months of each cohort.

4. The nationalities of students (as a percentage of the total discontinuers) who discontinued the course for each cohort intake.

See table 3 in the attached spreadsheet.

Due to low number of individuals who discontinued the course the data is more meaningful when presented as numbers as opposed to percentages.

5. The percentage breakdown of the different reasons given by students for discontinuing the course for each cohort intake.

See table 4 in the attached spreadsheet. Please note that ‘transfer’ relates to an internal transfer between courses.

Dear IMPFOI,

May I request for a clarification of the data in table 2.

I understand that the figures in the column "Year 1" represent the original number of students enrolled into the programme, as the numbers are consistent with my first question. Therefore these are not the number of students remaining after the first year of the programme.

Does this also mean that the figures in the column "Year 4" represent the number of students remaining after three years of study?

If the above is so, may I request for the number of students who graduated each year?

Yours sincerely,

Tong
