Dear Newcastle University,

I am writing to enquire about your Dentistry (A206) programme. I wish to enquire:

1) For 2018 and 2019 entry how many non partner applicants applied for your Dentistry course?
2) For 2018 and 2019 entry how many non-partner applicants had UKCAT scores equal to or above the UKCAT cut off for that respective year?
3) For 2018 and 2019 entry how many non-partners applicants did you interview for Dentistry?
4) For 2018 and 2019 entry how many offers did you give out for Dentistry (non-partners)?
5) For 2018 and 2019 entry, did everyone whose UKCAT score was above your cut-off and met the entry requirements get invited for an interview, or was there stages after this eg scoring personal statements? If there were any additional stages could you specify what these were?
6) For 2018 and 2019 entry, what was the highest interview score possible, and what was the minimum interview score required to gain an offer in that year (non-partners)?
7) For 2018 and 2019 entry, what was the minimum interview score required to gain an offer in that year for partner applicants?
8) What attributes do you score in the interview?

Yours faithfully,
Arfan m

Good morning Arfan,

Thank you for your request for information dated 24/09/2019, please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to your request. Please see below for our response:

1) For 2018 and 2019 entry how many non-partner applicants applied for your Dentistry course?

2018 - 591 non-partners students applied
2019 - 673 non-partners students applied

2) For 2018 and 2019 entry how many non-partner applicants had UKCAT scores equal to or above the UKCAT cut off for that respective year?

We would only interview students who were equal to or above the UCAT cut off so the data is the same as in question 3.

3) For 2018 and 2019 entry how many non-partners applicants did you interview for Dentistry?

2018 - 248 non-partners students were interviewed
2019 - 254 non-partners students were interviewed

4) For 2018 and 2019 entry how many offers did you give out for Dentistry (non-partners)?

2018 - 123 non-partners students were given an offer
2019 - 122 non-partners students were given an offer

5) For 2018 and 2019 entry, did everyone whose UKCAT score was above your cut-off and met the entry requirements get invited for an interview, or was there stages after this e.g. scoring personal statements? If there were any additional stages could you specify what these were?

The UCAT score is the first thing that we look at when we are shortlisting. We would check that first, then we would check predicted grades/achieved grades. We would also look at the personal statement to see if they had any relevant work experience. If the student met all of this criteria, then we would shortlist for interview. This would be the same for partners students and non-partners.

6) For 2018 and 2019 entry, what was the highest interview score possible, and what was the minimum interview score required to gain an offer in that year (non-partners)?

2018 - highest score 30/30, lowest score 28.5/30
2019 - highest score 30/30, lowest score 28.5/30

7) For 2018 and 2019 entry, what was the minimum interview score required to gain an offer in that year for partner applicants?

2018 - 27.5
2019 - 28

8) What attributes do you score in the interview?

We score the student over 6 sections: Preparation and motivation for Dental School/Effective learning skills/Team-working/Personal Qualities/Interpersonal and Communication Skills/Empathy and Professionalism

I hope that this is of use. If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request you can ask for an internal review. Details of how to do this can be found at: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/foi/access/complain...
