Dental foundation training overseas applicants
Dear Health Education England,
Please can I get a breakdown of the number of successful applicants who applied for dental foundation training but graduated outside of the UK. I would like a breakdown of all the universities and the number of successful applicants from each university. Can I get a list from the 2017,2018 and 2019 DFT cycles.
Yours faithfully, Jon Merecow

Dear FOIA,
Thank you for your very thorough response. In regards to your email from the 15/01/2021 I would like to know why each year the number of overseas DFT accepted applicants, are very different and not consistent. For example why are there only 10 accepted applicants in 2019/2020 as compared to 77 accepted applicants the following year. Thank again for your previous response and I hope to get another thorough response.
Yours sincerely,
Jon Merecow
Dear FOIA,
For the 2018/2019 cycle you have written Bulgaria as a university, can you confirm the specific name of the university in Bulgaria. Thank you for your response.
Yours sincerely,
Jon Merecow
Dear Jon Merecow,
Thank you for your recent emails, dated 16/01/2021 and 19/01/2021, asking
for further clarification in regards to information supplied by Health
Education England as part of your earlier request for information under
the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) - FOI 1169.
I will respond to each of your queries in turn:
Your email dated 16/01/2021:
Q) In regards to your email from the 15/01/2021 I would like to know why
each year the number of overseas DFT accepted applicants, are very
different and not consistent. For example why are there only 10 accepted
applicants in 2019/2020 as compared to 77 accepted applicants the
following year. Thank again for your previous response and I hope to get
another thorough response.
A) This is explained in our applicant handbook which can be found by
searching for the Dental Foundation Training Vacancy on Oriel. The
variance across the years is a result of the number of appointable
applicants who can only access the NHS performers list by completing DFT
in any particular year and the number of available posts in DFT across
England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Your email dated 19/01/2021:
Q) For the 2018/2019 cycle you have written Bulgaria as a university, can
you confirm the specific name of the university in Bulgaria. Thank you for
your response.
A) Unfortunately HEE cannot provide any more information than what has
been provided as our reporting is pulled from a white space question (a
blank space into which you write / enter a response to a question) which
the applicants themselves have completed. Hence ‘Bulgaria’ would have been
the answer the applicant themselves had given in response to this
question.
We hope that this information is of use. If you are dissatisfied with the
way in which we have dealt with your request you can ask us to review our
decision by writing to:
