It has come to my attention that when the GDC changed recently, they also removed the Advisory Board to the DCS, where seasoned Dental Professionals and Experts in public complaints resolution worked to oversee the DCS approach overall.

I would like you to explain to me why this decision was made

Dear Dr Stephen Hudson

 

I write in response to your  Freedom of Information query

 

Since the launch of the service in 2006 the DCS had an Advisory Board with
GDC council members on it. The board met on a quarterly basis to discuss
matters such as customer service, feedback and also how the DCS was
performing to  Business Plan and the GDC council received reports on its
performance. However, due to the recent changes with the GDC council
including a reduction in its size  and the development of a more strategic
role for the council  the DCS have taken the opportunity review the
governance arrangements which was considered by council at its October
2013 meeting. The council which includes registrants and lay members with
knowledge of consumer issues will receive regular reports on the
performance of the DCS and also approve the DCS Annual Review. The DCS is
setting up Expert Advice Forums  composed of experts from selected
organisations meeting twice yearly  to advise the DCS on its development
and provide expertise on leading edge practice in this area including 
complaints handling best practise and local resolution service.
