Dear Mr J Jaffray

I refer to my acknowledgement on 17 June 2013 of your request for
information regarding Dementia Awareness training under the provisions of
the Freedom of Information Act.  We are able to provide the following
information:

Information requested Our response
1.    How much, in total, does your Our answer to question 3 below sets
Trust spend on Dementia Awareness out the training provided. This shows
Training for staff per a year? that some training is integrated into
other courses.  We spend
approximately £468,400 for the
training listed in question 3.  Note
this includes the total cost of the
SME training day.
2.    How much does this equate to, On average per employee this equates
on average, per an employee? to £161.25.
3.    How many hours training on Dementia Training is part of the
Dementia Awareness Training do staff Statutory, Mandatory and Essential
receive per a year? (SME) Training day.  This training
will encompass 2 hours out of an 8
hour day for clinical staff.
However, we do not carry out
Dementia Training each year. It is
carried out when required to do so as
part of the Commissioners requirement
and our CQUINs, or when there is an
update to the Policies and
Governmental Acts on Mental Capacity
and Mental Health.

In addition, all our Emergency Care
Practitioners in Dorset and Somerset
are receiving one day training on
Dementia.

Staff are also given access to the on
line Dementia Training provided by
the National Learning Management
System.  This training takes
approximately two hours, and will be
completed once every three years.
4.    How does this cost in time & Fire Awareness Training – this is an
money compare to training such as; on-line training resource that takes
Conflict resolution Fire Awareness 1 hour, and is done annually by all
Moving and Handling staff within the Trust.  It costs
approximately £1 per member of
staff.  In addition we procure Fire
Warden training which costs £550 to
train 30 staff.

Conflict Resolution Training – this
is also part of the SME Training
course and the costs are included
above. It is also carried out using
an on line resource costing £23.20
(including training and training
record costs) per staff member for
approximately a 2 hour training time.

Moving and Handling Training – this
is completed as part of a Clinical
Operational Tutor shift and costs
approximately £190 per staff member;
but the cost includes driver
assessment, infection control,
clinical update, clinical assessment
etc. In addition, we use a Mandatory
Workbook for all staff within the
Trust which includes CRT and Manual
Handling.  This costs approximately
£5 per member staff.
