Definition of affordable housing in Sherborne

West Dorset District Council did not have the information requested.

Dear West Dorset District Council,

What is the definition of "affordable housing" used in planning for Sherborne?

Is it a single figure and if so what is it currently?

Beth Thomas,

Dear Mr Hartley,

Regarding the following Information Access Request:

What is the definition of "affordable housing" used in planning
for Sherborne?

Is it a single figure and if so what is it currently?

Thank you for your information request.

The term 'affordable housing' is defined in the glossary of the National
Planning Policy Framework (NPPF - page 64), which is online here –

[1]https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk....
As defined, the term includes: affordable housing for rent; starter homes;
discounted market sales housing; and other affordable routes to home
ownership. The latest version of the NPPF was published in February 2019,
which postdates the adoption of the current local plan for West Dorset,
which was adopted in October 2015. The NPPF definition differs from the
definition in Chapter 5 of the current local plan, which is online here
(see box in Section 5.2) -
[2]http://www.planvu.co.uk/wdwp/written/cpt....  Affordable housing is
sought under Policy HOUS1 in Chapter 5 and in Sherborne, as elsewhere in
West Dorset, 35% affordable housing is sought on open market housing
sites.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your
original letter and should be addressed to Roger Greene, Monitoring
Officer at [3][email address]. Please remember to quote the
reference number above in any future communications.

Should you remain dissatisfied with the final outcome of the internal
review then you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner (the
'ICO') for an independent review. The ICO is the Government’s Independent
Body responsible for overseeing the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the
Data Protection Act 1998 and The Environmental Information Regulations
2004. Please note the ICO will normally only review cases that have
exhausted the Dorset Council Partnerships’ internal review procedure. All
correspondence to the ICO must quote your reference number and your
reasons for your appeal. The ICO’s contact details are as follows:

The Information Commissioners Office,

Wycliffe House,

Water Lane,

Wilmslow,

Cheshire,

SK9 5AF.
