Defence Disposal Policy On Aircraft

Andrew King made this Freedom of Information request to Ministry of Defence

The request was successful.

Dear Ministry of Defence,

I am writing to request information upon the disposals process for former RAF airframes. Why is it currently so, that airframes are only offered to Everett Aero and a few select others and not to recognised museums? Surely offering them to a wider range of interested parties would generate potential for more money for the MOD? Also, why is it that the airframes are sold on so cheaply to Everett Aero and he is then allowed to sell them on for an outrageous price? And why when other higher bids have been submitted does Everett Aero still get the airframe? Legitimate aviation preservation groups are currently being cheated out of historic aircraft. Please can you clarify the situation and explain what is happening?

Yours faithfully,

Andrew J King.
