Dear Dundee City Council,

I recently requested FOISA information for the following:

"Can you please provide me with the following information:

Number of deaths registered with Dundee City Council for each of the last 5 years (individually 2016-2020 (including 2020) and not in "financial" years terms)"

You have refused to provide this, citing sections 25 of the act and stating that the information is available at the National Records Scotland website. This is not the case, and there is NO data for 2020 despite being half way through 2021. The information held by NRS is of "Deaths" in each of the 32 SLA's, not the amount of REGISTERED deaths which is the information I seek. I am fully aware that a death in Scotland can be registered anywhere, ie if you died in Shetland you could be registered as deceased in Fife.

A good example of this disparity between "deaths" and "registered deaths" would be of Glasgow City which according to NRS had 6,314 "deaths" in 2019 yet the city council recorded 4,452 "registered deaths" in 2019.

Can you please provide me with the data I have requested which you hold.

I thank you for your time on this matter, it is very much appreciated.

Yours faithfully,

Barry Corney
