David Davis' announcement on trade deals
Dear Department for Exiting the European Union,
In July 2016, David Davis MP, now the Minister for your department, said "So be under no doubt: we can do deals with our trading partners, and we can do them quickly. I would expect the new Prime Minister on September 9th to immediately trigger a large round of global trade deals with all our most favoured trade partners. I would expect that the negotiation phase of most of them to be concluded within between 12 and 24 months."
Could you confirm whether either the promised round of trade deals was announced in contravention of EU law, or whether Mr Davis was lying?

Thank you for your email. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has
issued guidance on how to format a valid request for information under the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 (‘the Act’). I have included a link to the

Under the guidance issued by the ICO, we do not find that your query is a
valid request under the Act as it does not ask for recorded information
held by the Department for Exiting the EU. In addition, the FOI Act covers
information held by public authorities but does not cover that of personal
or party political matters.
Should you wish to submit another request, we would be more than happy to
look at this for you.
