Department for Education

Dear Mr Lewarne,
Thank you for your email dated 09 February 2015 about Edubase.
You requested: “Could you please supply me with an excel spreadsheet of all schools in
England, their contact details and the contact details of the headteacher at each school?”

I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Under section 21 of the Act, the department is not required to provide information in
response to a request if it is already reasonably accessible to you. This response provides
you with further guidance to locate this information.

A file containing information about all state-funded and independent schools in England is
available to download from the GOV.UK website. The file is updated each month and can be
accessed here:
[1]https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio...

The file can be sorted to your own requirements by Phase of Education (primary, secondary
etc.) or Type of Establishment (academy, free school, community school, etc.). Further
information on these and other terms used within this extract can be found in the EduBase
glossary:  [2]http://www.education.gov.uk/edubase/glos...

As part of the data extract we have included the school Unique Reference Number (URN) so
that if you require further information on any particular school record please go to
[3]www.education.gov.uk/edubase where you will be able to view more information.

If you have any further issues or queries please do not hesitate to contact the EduBase
helpdesk using the feedback form: [4]http://www.education.gov.uk/edubase/feed...

The information supplied to you continues to be protected by copyright. You are free to use
it for your own purposes, including for private study and non-commercial research, and for
any other purpose authorised by an exception in current copyright law. Documents (except
photographs) can be also used in the UK without requiring permission for the purposes of
news reporting. Any other re-use, for example commercial publication, would require the
permission of the copyright holder.
