Database of all operating aggregate quarries in the UK
Dear British Geological Survey,
I am doing development work in this sector with regards to converting quarry scalpings into a aggregate type material. I wish to contact the quarries on this matter to ascertain how they currently operate and deal with this material at present. A database for this would be most beneficial Thanks

Dear Keith
Our ref: IDA 287879
Thank you for your request for data on operating aggregate quarries in the
UK. Most of this data is held in the BGS BRITPITS licensable data product
which includes the postal address for the sites, but it does not contain
the email addresses or phone numbers. This is because when the contact
details were collected it was made clear that they would be made available
in the Directory of Mines and Quarries, but not in a format that could be
used as a marketing database.
Email addresses and phone numbers of sites are available in the Directory
of Mines and Quarries and this is available as an online download
[1]https://www2.bgs.ac.uk/mineralsuk/downlo...
We consider all requests for digital data (BRITPITS) via our data
licensing service and because there is an existing service through which
we manage requests for our datasets your request does not need to be dealt
with under the Freedom of Information legislation and therefore we are
closing this request. Please can you email [2][email address] from
a private email address so that we can process your request for this data.
Three different versions of BRITPITS are available and the Active,
Inactive and Dormant is the one that includes most of the information you
have requested:
Active, inactive and dormant data
Includes only the active, inactive and dormant mines/quarries. Contains
approximately 3300+ entries.
The dataset licensed as complete GB coverage.
The data is supplied as an Excel file and/or a GIS point layer.
Data use costs: £150 full dataset + VAT
Full dataset
Includes all entries in the BritPits database including historic sites.
Contains over 230 000 total entries.
The data is split into 17 regions (see map) but, for licencing purposes,
it is supplied as 15 regions: the Isle of Man is supplied with Northern
Ireland and the Channel Islands are supplied with south-west England.
Includes locations of active mines, pits and quarries, the names of the
sites, the operator, and the commodity extracted.
Data is supplied as an Excel file and/or a GIS point layer.
Data use costs: £50 per region + VAT
Index data
Four attributes: easting, northing, status and name. This is a free
dataset available to view via the onshore GeoIndex or supplied on request
as either GIS point layer or Excel file.
Costs: Free of charge
An additional £200 + VAT in licence administration and data preparation
fees applies to an order for data. The exception to this is the index
data which can be supplied free of charge.
If the data is required for academic research only (no commercial funding
and results can be made publicly available) then a reasonable amount of
data can be supplied free of charge under an academic licence.
If you would like to proceed with licensing any of the data please contact
[3][email address] from a private email address so that we can help
you further.
Kind regards
