Data on army training drop out figures

We're waiting for Rachel Taylor to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Ministry of Defence,

How many soldiers who enlisted aged i) under 18, and ii) 18 or over, in each financial year 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18, dropped out of the army before completing their phase two training?

Yours faithfully,

Rachel Taylor

Dear Army Sec-Group (MULTIUSER),

The data you've linked to shows the drop-out numbers by year of outflow, but my question asked for the data by year of enlistment, which would give a very different result. Would you mind looking at it again, please?

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Taylor

Dear Ms Taylor,

Thank you for clarifying your request. It has been logged under our reference 2020/03974.

The Freedom of Information Act requires a response to be provided to a request under the Act within 20 working days from date of receipt and we therefore aim to respond to you by 16/04/2020. Whilst we are working hard to achieve this, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and the effect on resources and necessary changes to ways of working, we should advise that it may take longer to provide a substantive response to some requests.

Kind regards,

Dear Army Sec-Group (MULTIUSER),

Thank you for your response. Can you confirm that the table has been labelled correctly? It suggests that 76% of under-18 recruits dropped out of training in 2015/2016. I think the rows might have been mis-labelled.

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Taylor

Army Sec-Group (MULTIUSER), Ministry of Defence

Dear Ms Taylor,

The table provided does not show number of Under 18 who dropped out of training in one year. It shows the number of recruits in that age bracket and year of entry, who left training before completing Phase 2. Of the 1360 Under 18 who enlisted in RY 15/16, some may have left in that year, some may have left in RY 16/17 and some may have left in RY 17/18. This figure provided cannot be compared to Under 18 inflow by year, to reach a % figure.

Kind regards,

Manning Portfolio 2 | Army Secretariat
