Dartford Crossing: Trend of Delays and Collisions

The request was partially successful.

Dear Highways England Company Limited,

Can you please provide the following: -

- a trend analysis of clockwise traffic delays, including the maximum length of slow or queued traffic, since the implementation of the free-flow charging at the Dartford Crossing, with comparison against the same dates for the previous five years.
- a trend analysis of anticlockwise traffic delays, including the maximum length of slow or queued traffic, since the implementation of the free-flow charging at the Dartford Crossing, with comparison against the same dates for the previous five years.
- a trend analysis of collisions in the clockwise approach to the Dartford Crossing since the implementation of the free-flow charging at the Dartford Crossing, with comparison against the same dates for the previous five years.
- a trend analysis of collisions in the anticlockwise approach to the Dartford Crossing since the implementation of the free-flow charging at the Dartford Crossing, with comparison against the same dates for the previous five years.

It is acknowledged that you may need to refer to your successor organisation (Highways Agency) for some details to enable you to respond to the above, however as this would be an intra-Agency request, it should not prevent you from responding to this request within the statutory period allowed.

Yours faithfully,
Sam Dalton

Dear Porter, Angela,

In your letter dated 14th September 2015, which was attached electronically to this request, you have asked for the following points to be clarified: -

1) By 'collisions', do you mean all collisions, or only personal injury collisions?
2) By 'clockwise approach to the Dartford Crossing', can you please specify the exact area, (i.e. from junction 30 or 31a to the start or centre of the bridge), or something different.
3) By 'anti-clockwise approach to the Dartford Crossing' can you please specify the exact area, (i.e. from junction 2, or 1b to the start or centre of the tunnels) or something different.

My clarifications to these points are as follows: -

1) "Collisions", for the purpose of this request, are defined as all collisions. If you are able to identify those collisions where you have been notified of personal injury, it would be beneficial.
2) "Clockwise approach to the Dartford Crossing" is defined as terminating at the clockwise termination of the A282 and commencing at the junction immediately prior to furthest point from the clockwise termination of the A282 from which traffic has been impacted by the Dartford Crossing either by a collision or due to excessive weight of traffic on the day on which the delay occurred.
3) "Anti-clockwise approach to the Dartford Crossing" is defined as terminating at the anti-clockwise termination of the A282 and commencing at the junction immediately prior to furthest point from the anti-clockwise termination of the A282 from which traffic has been impacted by the Dartford Crossing either by a collision or due to excessive weight of traffic on the day on which the delay occurred.

I trust that this clarifies my request of 21st August 2015 and look forward to receiving your full response by 21st September 2015.

Yours sincerely,

Sam Dalton
