CQC requires clarification of the following parts of your request before
we can proceed with your request.
In item 1. Could you please clarify what you mean by ‘reports received’.
In item 2. You ask for hospitals that have been rated ‘unsatisfactory’.
CQC does not have an unsatisfactory rating; do you mean ‘Requires
Improvement’ or ‘Inadequate’?
Requests can often be unclear or ambiguous with different potential
interpretations and where a public authority is not clear as to what is
being asked for, it can, in accordance with section 1(3) of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 (FOIA), ask the applicant to clarify their request.
CQC will not proceed with responding to any part of your request until we
have received the clarification requested above. Once this is received, we
will notify you of the new due date for response.
If we do not receive a reply by 20 August 2024, we will assume that you do
not wish to continue with your request at this point in time. This does
not prejudice your right to make any requests for information in the
future.

Dear Information Access,
Apologies for the ambiguity of my initial email, and thank-you for reaching out for clarification so quickly.
By ‘reports received,’ I am referring to whistleblowing and complaints submitted by the public, patients, carers, and other bodies regarding Cygnet Health Care psychiatric hospitals. Specifically, I am interested in the combined number of these reports received per year from 2010.
For the ratings of Cygnet Health Care psychiatric hospitals, I refer to those rated as ‘Requires Improvement’ or ‘Inadequate.’ Please provide the number of hospitals rated under these categories per year from 2010 to the most recent year available, including a breakdown between Adult services and CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).
I hope this clarification helps. Please let me know if any further information is needed to proceed with my request.
Thank you for your assistance.
Yours sincerely,
Will Nugent
