How much of the budget is spent and how much remains at the end of each year?
If there are surplus funds, please tell me what is done with the surplus.
What is the average spend per trainee per year?
How many trainees are there across the region? How many trainees do not use any of their entitlement to the budget?

Dear FOIA,

Thank you for your reply.

I am referring to Anaesthetic Trainees in the Yorkshire and the Humber region. When I referred to the Schools of Anaesthesia within Yorkshire and the Humber I mean the three schools (East, West and South).

I hope that clarifies things for you.

Yours sincerely,

Brian James

Dear Brian,

RE: Freedom of Information Request

We refer to your email of 24/01/2018 in respect of attaining information
relating to Anaesthesia.

HEE can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 (FOIA) that we do hold some of the information that you have
requested.

Your request

 1. What is the annual curriculum delivery budget for Anaesthesia training
for the last three financial years?
 2. How much of the budget is spent and how much remains at the end of
each year?
 3. If there are surplus funds, please tell me what is done with the
surplus.
 4. What is the average spend per trainee per year?
 5. How many trainees are there across the region? How many trainees do
not use any of their entitlement to the budget?
 6. What is the highest that has been reimbursed on a single trainee over
the last three years?

Response

Please see below:

 1. What is the annual curriculum delivery budget for Anaesthesia training
for the last three financial years?

o 2015/16: Budget was £150,000
o 2016/17: Budget was £110,000
o 2017/18: Budget was £110,000

 2. How much of the budget is spent and how much remains at the end of
each year?

o 2015/16: Total spend was £110,452
o 2016/17: Total spend was £105,096
o 2017/18: Total spend for the completed financial year is
unavailable as we are still within this financial year.

 3. If there are surplus funds, please tell me what is done with the
surplus.

HEE can confirm any underspend is reinvested in education and training
initiatives across Yorkshire and the Humber.

 4. What is the average spend per trainee per year?

HEE across Yorkshire and Humber does not hold information to this level of
detail. We can confirm that budgetary information is not attributed to
individual trainees, hence there is no average spend per trainee held by
HEE.

 5. How many trainees are there across the region? How many trainees do
not use any of their entitlement to the budget?

HEE can confirm there are 230 trainees within the Yorkshire and Humber
School of Anaesthetics (at April 2017).

We can confirm that trainees are not individually allocated a portion of
the budget; the budget is set to cover the requirements of the whole
school and is not based an allowance per trainee.

 6. What is the highest that has been reimbursed on a single trainee over
the last three years?

HEE can confirm the highest single recorded claim for a trainee within the
financial years 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18 so far was £1,056.36.
