Freedom of Information

Dear Ian Silvera

I have had no reply to my request for clarification. However, given the
way in which our statistics and returns to the National Offender
Management Service are recorded I may not be able to present the responses
precisely in the way you require anyway, so I am giving you what
information I can.

1)        How many offenders carried out Community Service Orders (CSOs)
and Community Payback Orders (CPOs)during the calender year 2011(January
      1st 2011- December 31st 2011)?

The average number of offenders undertaking an Unpaid Work requirement as
part of a Community Order each Quarter (every 3 months) is 1650.

2)        How many offenders failed to turn up to their work placements
during their Community Service Order or Community Payback Orders during
the                 calender year 2011 ((January 1st 2011- December 31st
2011)?

During the course of 2011 there were 19156 days 'lost' due to offenders
failing to report for the sessions.  In the same period 60766 days were
planned.  This equals an attendance rate of 70%.
I hope this satisfies your request. Please let me know if I can explain
anything further.

Your sincerely

Hilary Lawrenson

Freedom of Information

We have received the request for the following information:

1)How many offenders carried out Community Service Orders (CSOs) and
Community Payback Orders (CPOs)during the calender year 2011(January 1st
2011- December 31st 2011)?

2)How many offenders failed to turn up to their work placements during
their Community Service Order or Community Payback Orders during the
calender year 2011 ((January 1st 2011- December 31st 2011)?

Please would you clarify question 2. Do you want to know a) how many
sessions were missed in total during the year for any reason or b) how
many individuals missed a session at any time during the year. For example
if 100 offenders attended Community Payback during the year the answer to
a) might be 300 and the answer to b) might be 60
