Crystal Leisure Centre wirstbands

The request was successful.

Rhianna Parsons

Dear Dudley Council,

As a regular visitor to the Crystal Leisure Centre I have noted that the paper wristbands, presumably introduced during the pandemic to limit contact points, are still in use. I don't understand why Dudley Council is choosing to use this unsustainable method when the rubber bands functioned perfectly well and were extremely sustainable. Can you please tell me how many paper bands are given out each week at the leisure centre?

Regards,

Rhianna Parsons

Your Request

As a regular visitor to the Crystal Leisure Centre I have noted that the
paper wristbands, presumably introduced during the pandemic to limit
contact points, are still in use.  I don't understand why Dudley Council
is choosing to use this unsustainable method when the rubber bands
functioned perfectly well and were extremely sustainable.  Can you please
tell me how many paper bands are given out each week at the leisure
centre?

Our Response

The centre gives out approximately 600 bands a week during term time and
4,000 during holiday weeks.

Paper bands are only given out during weekends and holidays during our
busy times and only to those aged over 8. We try and reduce this further
by limiting the amount given out to families.

Dear Information Governance,

Purely paper? Are they plasticised? What are all the ingredients please as they don't disolve in water so I can't see that they're purely paper. Thanks!

Our Response

Tyvek wristbands are made from spun and woven polyethylene fibres, they
look and feel like paper but are water resistant and much more robust.
Their soft, paper-like qualities make them lightweight and comfortable to
wear for adults and children.
