Crossco Ltd

Alicia made this Freedom of Information request to Companies House

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was refused by Companies House.

Dear Companies House,

I am part of a team of researchers interested in UK companies and their formation.

Whilst using your search facility the following happens:

When you type the name "Crossco Ltd" into section 1, then tick the "previous names" box in section 2, you are directed to many pages of companies who were previously named Crossco(numerical suffix)Ltd.

In order to complete our research please confirm the exact number of Companies that were previously called Crossco (numerical suffix)Ltd.

Yours faithfully,

Alicia

Ceri Harnett, Companies House

Dear Alicia

I refer to your freedom of information requests in your emails dated 7
February 2011.

You asked for the numbers of companies previously called Crossco
(numerical suffix) Ltd and also Intercede (numerical suffix) Ltd

As you are aware the list of all these particular companies is available
to you free of charge via a search of our public register, via the method
you describe in your email. Whilst the numbers of or total amount of these
companies is not displayed it can be calculated manually from the list.

As previously explained in response to an earlier freedom of information
request from you for similar information, any information that is
reasonably accessible is exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of
Information Act. As the requested information is provided on our register
Companies House does consider the information you require to be reasonably
accessible.

Whilst we provided the information you requested previously, we did
explain that any future requests of this nature will have to be refused
under section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act for the reasons
explained above and I am therefore unable to provide the data requested in
response to your latest requests.

I am sorry that I am unable to fulfill your requests but if you are
unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your requests
and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our response, you
should write to me, within two calendar months of the date of this email
and I will ensure that it is forwarded to a senior member of Companies
House who has had no previous involvement in this case and they will
undertake the review.

If you are then not content with the outcome of your review, you may apply
directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the
ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints
procedure provided by us. The Information Commissioner can be contacted
at: The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane,
Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely

Ceri Harnett

Dear Companies House,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Companies House's handling of my FOI request 'Crossco Ltd'.

I do not accept that my request is vexatious and therefore do not accept your refusal.

Despite trying on many occasions to calculate the number of companies previously called Crossco(numerical suffix)Ltd, I have been unable to do so.

Please reconsider your response.

Yours faithfully,

Alicia

Ceri Harnett, Companies House

Dear Alicia
Thank you for your email and request for an internal review.

I would like to point out that we did not refuse your request for
information because it was vexatious (section 14 of the Freedom of
Information Act)

Your request was refused under section 21 of the Act as the information is
already in the public domain and accessible to you.

Please would you confirm whether you still wish an internal review to be
conducted, this will of course review the section 21 exemption that we
applied and also our handling of your request (if you wish).

I look forward to hearing from you shortly

Kind regards

Ceri Harnett
