Criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in the communal areas of Council owned blocks

We're waiting for Stephen Fitzgerald to read a recent response and update the status.

Stephen Fitzgerald

Dear Lewisham Borough Council,

Specifically in relation to ongoing criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in the communal areas of Council owned blocks. Covering the period 01 January 2018 until 31 December 2019:

1. Please confirm who is responsible for the safety and security in communal areas of council owned blocks?

2. How many complaints relating to communal areas in council owned blocks were reported to the council in 2018 and 2019 respectively?

3. How many complaints relating communal areas in council owned blocks were reported to the council’s housing management companies in 2018 and 2019 respectively?

4. How many of the above complaints reported to the council’s housing management companies were reported to the council or other relevant authority (such as the Safer Neighbourhood Team) within two weeks of the company receiving a complaint?

5. Can you provide a list of the 10 council owned blocks with highest number of complaints relating to communal areas in 2018 and 2019 respectively – I am happy to receive this information in whatever format is easiest, but would be useful to have in the below format:

Block name Complaints 2018 Complaints 2019

6. What specific actions have the council taken to reduce the number of complaints and increase the safety and security in communal areas? I am happy to receive copies of block specific action plans (for the 10 listed in question 5 above) or wider strategic documents from 2018 and 2019.

7. Who is responsible for ensuring the action plans/strategic documents provided in question 6 above are implemented?

8. What processes are in place to monitor performance against the action plans/documents provided in question 6 above?

Yours faithfully,

Stephen Fitzgerald

Dear Customer Relations Team,

Dear Lewisham Borough Council

Thank you for your response on 24th July. I am following up because parts of the original FOI request remain unanswered.

The response from Lewisham Homes is good but states that question 2 is for the Council to answer. Please may the council provide a response to this question which refers to the number of complaints forwarded to and/or escalated to the council to resolve?

How many complaints relating to communal areas in council owned blocks were reported to the council in 2018 and 2019 respectively?

As requested previously (on 27th June) this FOI relates to all of the council's housing stock. Your reply of 30th June and Lewisham Home's response of 24th July states that Lewisham Home does not manage all of the housing stock. Please may you forward this FOI to the council's other housing management suppliers (PFI and Tenant Management Organisation) to respond to?

Yours sincerely,

Stephen Fitzgerald

Customer Relations Team,
