Subject: FW: FOI 12/321 - Freedom of Information request - CPRD literature for Patients and Data Suppliers

Ref No: 12/321

Dear Mr Watson

Thank you for your email of 10 August 2012 in which you requested information about information to patients and data suppliers relating to CPRD.

The CPRD is a new programme, initiated on 29 March 2012. Documents relating to data suppliers and patients are still under review and have not been finalised. However, CPRD has been developed building on the knowledge and research activities of GPRD, the General Practice Research Database. GPRD has been in existence since 1987, and held on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health since 1994. I am happy to enclose the confidentiality and patient leaflets which have been used by GPRD for the last few years. Note that the Confidentiality Guidelines document contains, at page 2, an exact reproduction of a document supplied as a poster to practices contributing data.

The information supplied to you continues to be protected by copyright. You are free to use it for your own purposes, including for private study and non-commercial research, and for any other purpose authorised by an exception in current copyright law. Documents (except photographs) can be also used in the UK without requiring permission for the purposes of news reporting. Any other reuse, for example commercial publication, would require the permission of the copyright holder.

Most documents supplied by MHRA will have been produced within government and will be Crown Copyright. For information about re-using Crown Copyright see the Office of Public Sector Information website at www.opsi.gov.uk. The copyright in some documents may rest with a third party. For information about obtaining permission from a third party see the Intellectual Property Office's website at www.ipo.gov.uk. For details on MHRA's copyright policy please visit:
