Covid vaccines and cancer patients

The request was partially successful.

Dear Public Health Scotland,

I hope you are the right body to request this information? If not ,any assistance in advising who is monitoring and recording and holds this information would be appreciated.

I know of 9 people who are receiving cancer treatment or recently finished it, with their bloods being monitored regularly. Each one has had 2 doses of the covid vaccines, some astrazeneca and some pfzier. Since receiving the vaccine 6 of them have found lumps and or blood numbers have risen dramatically and suddenly, 5 out the 9 still receiving treatment.

Can you please provide the following information.

Who is monitoring?, If anyone? how the covid vaccines are affecting cancer patients and their treatment in Scotland?

Any studies or research that shows that the covid vaccines have been tested and deemed safe for cancer patients and don't interact or interfere with each available type of cancer treatment drug currently available to patients in Scotland?

Since the start of covid vaccine roll out in Scotland, How many cancer patients, being monitored or treated for cancer, have been found or reported to have either or both, a sudden rise in their bloods and/or lumps appearing shortly after receiving a covid vaccine?

Yours faithfully,

Miss G Simpson

Dear Miss G Simpson,

Further to our previous response (which is attached for reference) we
received some additional detail from our health protection colleagues we
thought you’d find useful:

“Since the start of covid vaccine roll out in Scotland, How many cancer
patients, being monitored or treated for cancer, have been found or
reported to have either or both,  a sudden rise in their bloods and/or
lumps appearing shortly after receiving a covid vaccine?”

No such cases have been reported to Public Health Scotland.

The vaccine analysis print of the Medical and Healthcare products
Regulatory Agency (MHRA) contains a complete list of all suspected adverse
reactions that have been reported via the yellow card scheme. These are
reports of neoplasms comprising of both benign and malignant conditions by
vaccine type, from the start of the programme to the 30th of September
2021:

o Pfizer BioNtech – 239 reports including 5 fatalities
o AstraZeneca – 446 reports including 8 fatalities
o Moderna – 20 reports with no fatalities
o Brand unspecified – 7 reports including 1 fatality

Please note these reports are not broken down by country and are reports
following all COVID vaccinations in the U.K.

More detail can be found in the MHRA Coronavirus vaccine – weekly summary
of yellow card reporting which was last updated 07 October 2021
