Dear Mr Manir

TfL Ref: FOI-1977-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 2
January 2021.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can
confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

1. The number of positive covid19 test cases in year 2020 by bus operator.

Please find the figures for each bus operator in the below table. Data is
from 3 October 2020 which is when we started to collect it once testing
was more available, and as the number of positive tests started to
increase in the wider community.

Bus Operator Agency COVID-19 positive cases
(up to 31/12/20)
Abellio 45
Arriva 193
Go-Ahead 226
H C T Group 18
Stagecoach 194
RATP 84
Metroline 123
Sullivan Buses 3
Tower Transit 37
Uno Buses 4
Total 927

2. Number of those positive covid19 hospitalised by bus operator

We do not hold this information.

3. Number of bus drivers who sadly died from covid19 by bus operator.

Please find the requested information in the below table. It includes
cases since March 2020.

Bus Operator COVID-19 mortality cases in 2020
Abellio 2
Arriva 3
Go-Ahead 8
HCT 1
Metroline 11
RATP 2
Stagecoach 2
Tower Transit 5
Total 34

The number of deaths by Bus Operator for the period March to May 2020 is
also published in this UCL [1]report on the TfL website.

It is important to compare the above figures with the market share of each
bus operator. As you may know they differ greatly in size, therefore the
larger the market share the higher the number of deaths and positive cases
they are likely to have. The below table shows the percentage of each
operator’s market share for context. Please note the figures are
approximately 10 months old.

Go Ahead 23.45%
Metroline 18.68%
Arriva 17.76%
Stagecoach   13.27%
RATP (London United, London Sovereign, HR 12.70%
Richmond)
Abellio 7.73%
Tower Transit 4.24%

HCT Group (Hackney Community Transport) 1.60%

Sullivan Buses 0.54%

Uno 0.04%

If you are considering submitting a further request please think carefully
about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering
FOI/EIR requests will require the use of limited resources and the
attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where
requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by
the current situation.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
