Dear University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust,

Thank you for your swift 'reply' detailing that you are unable to help. I don't believe the government website you have directed me to accurately reflects the number of Covid Deaths as this is those that have died within 28 days of testing positive but not strictly as a result of just Covid. Are you able to offer any suggestions as to what you may be able to provide in the way of data that could come close to differentiating between died with and died exclusively from?

Yours faithfully,

Sean Hincks

FOI, University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust

Dear Sean Hincks,

Thank you for your follow up email.

The hospitals that form University Hospitals Dorset NHS FT registered a total of 787 deaths of patients with Covid-19 (within 28 days of a positive test) between 1st January 2020 and 30th April 2021. This information is published on a daily basis by Public Health England and can be found here: https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/st....

As noted within our response to your request, the only way to discern the primary cause of death is to scrutinise the relevant patient files to establish the exact cause of death and whether this was Covid-19 alone. Using a reasonable estimate, if these files were reviewed at a rate of one every 20 minutes, it would take approximately 262.3 hours to review all relevant files. The Trust is only obliged to comply with a request for information under the FOI Act where the cost limit does not exceed £450, based on a flat rate of £25 per hour. On the basis of the above calculation, the cost to comply with your request would be £6558. Based on this calculation, the Trust would be able to review 54 patient files to establish their cause of death. However please be advised, a single cause of death may not be apparent even if a review of patient notes is carried out.

Further information can be found on the Information Commissioner's website here: https://ico.org.uk/media/1199/costs_of_c...

As noted within our original response, if you remain unsatisfied with this additional response you may contact the Information Commissioner's Office; the relevant contact details were included within our previous email.
