It is in the news today (2/12/21) that the UK government have ordered a further 114 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. A previous deal with the french company Valneva was terminated citing "allegations of a breach of agreement". No other details seem to be available. This action seems bizarre as the company was operating from Livingston in Scotland, Boris Johnson even visited the facility and was photographed wearing a labcoat, pipette in hand. Can you please tell me the reasons why this order from Valneva was cancelled, affecting British jobs when the need for further vaccine doses was clearly evident and has since been ordered. Is it because the Valneva vaccine did not employ mRNA technology. Again this would seem counter-intuitive as I would suggest a much better uptake from a traditional style of vaccine rather than experimental ones.
