Dear Mr Ahmed

TfL Ref 1960-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 3
January 2021 asking for information about COVID19 isolation-sick pay paid
to bus operators.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can
confirm that we hold the information you require.  You asked:

 1. Please can you provide in the year 2020 the cost TfL paid to bus
operators towards isolation / sick pay.

£1,672,767.52 has been paid in total in 2020.

2. Can we have the terms of references how this was agreed and any
documents such as minutes or reviews that had taken place since agreeing.

An agreement was put in place very quickly at the start of the pandemic to
address the immediate concerns and to ensure that there was a clear
message to drivers that if they felt ill they should not come to work. The
document attached was issued to operators on 20^th March 2020. We have
reviewed the position twice, most recently in September 2020 when we
undertook a readiness exercise for a second wave and concluded that we
should continue with the scheme. We will review it again as we transition
out of the current lockdown, as we expect to end it once the pandemic has
passed.

3. Which type of staff was benefited from this in London Buses and who
were excluded?

This applied to critical operational staff, including drivers, engineers
and cleaners.

4. Were cleaners in London Buses benefited from sick pay from TfL?

Yes – this was passed through to the bus cleaners working in garages,
through the operators.

If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think
carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as
answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the
attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where
requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by
the current situation.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
