Counselling for students
Dear University of Northampton,
Under the Freedom of Information Act, please could you provide me with the number of students who have accessed counselling services provided by the university for each of the past three academic years (2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17).
If possible, please provide a breakdown by the type of issue the students are seeking help for.

I write in response to your request for information dated 9^th
November,2017, received by the University and passed to me as the
University’s Freedom of Information Officer for action.
In response to the first part of your question:
………………please could you provide me with the number of students who have
accessed counselling services provided by the university for each of the
past three academic years (2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17).
The numbers of students who accessed the University’s counselling services
in each of the past three academic years is:
2014-15 – 426 students
2015-16 – 445 students
2016-17 – 460 students
In response to the second part of your question:
If possible, please provide a breakdown by the type of issue the students
are seeking help for.
The type of issues that our students are seeking help for are:
Abuse; academic issues; anxiety; addictive behaviour;
depression/anger/mood change or disorder; loss; other mental health
conditions; physical health; relationships; self/identity; sexual issues;
transitions; self-harm; other issues
Additionally the University also has a team of Mental Health Advisers who
are available to offer specialist advice and guidance to students with
mental health issues.
I hope the University has made its response in a clear and constructive
manner; however, if you consider the University has handled your request
unfairly you are entitled to follow the process set out in our standard
