Derrick Chester

Dear Arun District Council,

Without identifying the individuals involved could you please tell me the number of occasions since May 2019 that a reason for absence has been approved for Councillors to avoid them being kicked off the Council for not attending a meeting for six months? The reason for each? How long before a six month absence deadline approached was each absence granted and for each how much Councillor allowance/expenses were paid during the time of absence? Who granted the absence, and under what section of the Arun constitution was this authorised?

Yours faithfully,

Derrick Chester

The reports confirm that the absence has been approved for personal
reasons.   The Council cannot provide the personal reasons given by the
three councillors as this would disclose exempt information which
constitutes the personal data of these councillors as defined under
Section 40 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, although the live
stream of the meeting does include a verbal update from the Leader of the
Green Group, Councillor Isabel Thurston on the reason for Councillor Mrs
Faye Caffyn’s absence which can be viewed from:

2.  As answered above.

3. Please see the publicly accessible reports in the agenda for the Annual
Council Meeting.  In all instances, the Councillors concerned claimed
their Basic Allowance.

4. This information is confirmed in the publicly accessible reports in the
agenda for the Annual Council Meeting.
